Free to use
Any person, any organisation, commercial work included.
Share it unchanged
Pass the installer or package on as it came.
No modified copies
Forks and rebuilt builds may not be distributed.
Provided as is
No warranty; you own the requests you send.
What you may do
ResponderHTTP is free of charge. Permission is granted to any person or organisation to use it, and that permission is deliberately broad:
-
Use it for anything, including commercial work, inside a company, or on client projects
-
Install it on as many computers as you like
-
Pass the installer or package on to someone else unchanged
-
Read the source code, and build it yourself to check that it does what this site says it does
There is no licence fee, no registration, no account and no seat count to track.
What you may not do
One thing is reserved: nobody may distribute a modified version of this application.
-
Do not publish, share, sell or otherwise distribute a changed build, a fork, a repackaging or a rebranded copy
-
Do not present the app, or anything derived from it, as your own work
-
Do not remove or alter the name, the authorship or these notices in a copy you pass on
-
Do not sell the app, or charge for access to it, whether changed or not
Changing your own copy, on your own machine, for your own use is not what this restricts — what it restricts is handing that changed copy to anyone else. If you want a change in the app, the issue tracker is the right place to ask, and a change worth making helps everyone rather than one fork.
The source code
The source is public so that the claims on this site can be checked: that nothing is collected, that secrets are encrypted, that requests go only where you send them. Being readable is not the same as being open source — the repository carries no open-source licence, and the restriction above applies to the code as much as to the built application.
The full licence text is in the LICENSE file in the repository. Where the licence and this page differ, the licence governs.
No warranty
The application is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
It is a tool that sends whatever you tell it to send, to whatever address you type. You are responsible for the requests you make, for having permission to make them, and for the data you put in them.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the author is not liable for any claim, damages or other liability — whether in contract, tort or otherwise — arising from the application or its use, including any loss of data, loss of profit, or consequences of a request the application sent.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case those exclusions apply only as far as the law allows and nothing here removes a right you have that cannot be waived.
Third-party components
The application is built on open-source components — among them libcurl, SQLite, Tauri, Rust crates such as protox and prost-reflect, React and the Monaco editor. Each remains under its own licence, and those licences continue to apply to those components rather than being replaced by these terms. On Windows it also relies on the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, which is Microsoft’s and is covered by Microsoft’s own terms. On Linux, WebKitGTK, GTK and the other system libraries that draw the window remain under their own licences.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the updated version will be published at this address and the date above will change. A change does not reach back: a copy you already have stays under the terms it was given to you under.
